Getting back to the windy city is always a good time. Wellington is a place I love, it's where I've made some of my truest friendships and where I've achieved some of my biggest goals. Heading down for the weekend to complete the Wellington Half Marathon was an awesome little trip but as always I wish I had more time.
There is something about my Welly friends that really refreshes me, lifts me up and gets my motivation for life going. The weekend was jam packed and went a little like this:

There is something about my Welly friends that really refreshes me, lifts me up and gets my motivation for life going. The weekend was jam packed and went a little like this:
- A quick visit to the old flat, dinner with the girls, sleepover with Courts, training run to start Saturday, tea date with my coach, lunch with family & friends, hang time with Courts, dinner date with the boyfriend, watching the big game, bedtime and then at 6.30am start to head to the start line for the half marathon and back on the road home to Rotorua.
Tips for running a half marathon:
- Vaseline is your best friend - layer that stuff everywhere because you will most likely chafe in places you thought it wasn't possible to chafe.
- Get a good playlist ready prior to race day - 1min before the start is too late.
- If you need to spit be sure to check which way the wind is going to avoid it ending right back on your face or more awkwardly on another competitors face
- If you are going to take a gel while running ensure that you are near a water stand otherwise it will feel like you are trying to swallow a mouthful of marmite
- Practice a good fake smile - those event photographers are hiding everywhere and their purpose is to capture every emotion you are feeling throughout that 21km
- Learn a good technique of drinking whilst running - there is a 99% chance you will end up watering every part of your body except your mouth
- If you want a good selfie/instagram photo take it before the race because you will most likely look like a drowned rat rather then #fitspo #fitspiration #summerbody #strongisthenewskinny
All in all it was an awesome weekend, an awesome race and I cant pretend I don't love running 21km. Thanks for having me Welly! Until next time
