Sometimes your inner beast mode comes naturally... and sometimes it comes in the form of your rap workout playlist. I have dabbled in a bit of this kind of music over the years but recently it has been taken to a whole new level.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure everyone has come to a point where even if they have 10,000 songs on their iPod they still feel like they're listening to the same songs EV-ER-EY SINGLE DAY! And if you're anything like me this will eventually lead you to preferring to listen to the person next to you heavily breathing and making questionable sounds rather than resort to repeats of the NZ top 40.
So one day whilst being infuriated that I couldn't find one song that I hadn't heard a million times and was going to give me a little motivation I thought that maybe it was time to try something new (thank god that Spotify has a bunch of workout playlists already made up). I scrolled past latin dance workout, bollywood workout and then along came 'Power Workout'.... and I thought "oh yeeeah I'll give it a whirl" next thing I knew I had been transported into a genre of which I haven't looked back.
I'll tell you what, beast mode is at full capacity with Jay-Z, Kid Ink, 50 Cent, T.I, ASAP Rocky, Eminem, The Game, Lil Wayne and a whole bunch more. It also turns out that they rap about more than 'the club', girls, grillz and money! Below a few pearls of wisdom, they may not sound quite the same as Mum and Dad's advice but you get the gist.

"I gotta ride for something, gotta die for something, say you only live once, we’ll I keep it 100"
"How the hell could you stop me?
Why in the world would you try?
I go hard forever,
That's just how I'm designed,
That's just how I was built
See the look in my eyes?
You take all of this from me,
And I'm still gon' survive"
"Cause sometimes you just feel tired,
Feel weak, and when you feel weak, you feel like you wanna just give up.
But you gotta search within you, you gotta find that inner strength
And just pull that shit out of you and get that motivation to not give up
And not be a quitter, no matter how bad you wanna just fall flat on your face and collapse."
So if you find your motivation lacking give my old rap buddies a go! Also feel free to chuck some music suggestions my way! Now it's time for headphone's to go in, world to turn off and beast mode on full capacity; hill sprints I'm coming for you
