Hello! First off - sorry to have left you in the lurch after competing in Chicago! I got home and was straight back into working and in all honesty needed a breather from triathlon.
CHICAGO! Well, it was amazing to say the least, Chicago put on a week of beautiful weather and the company I spent it with just made it that much better. When planning a trip to the USA, Chicago is very underrated, I would go back in a heart beat! From lake Michigan to the incredible architecture, the perfectly groomed parks to the food, it was a place I will never forget!

Racing amongst an atmosphere like what was in Chicago was like no other race I had experienced, from the start horn to the finish line there were people cheering you the entire way, which in such hot weather I think was the only thing that got me to the finish line!
The swim was a battle for the first 400meters but once the pack separated I was on my way, I ended coming out of the water in around 10th position with a time of around 21minutes which I was happy with.
Next was the worlds LONGEST transition (ever tried to run fast after swimming 1500m? Don't, it's not fun) and out onto the 40km bike course which was through the streets and tunnels of the city - a fast and fun course to ride! I was beyond stoked with my time of 1hour 3minutes for the bike, which was well under what I had predicted! Then came the hard part... the run.
The sun had come out and it was 4 laps of one long road and although it meant people cheering the whole way, it was very mentally challenging. My legs felt the hurt very early on and the heat was getting to me... this was one of the hardest runs I've ever done. I was passed by a few people but kept trucking on to come in with a time of 2hours 19minutes, slower than I would have liked but god knows I left it all out on the course that day. Overall I was happy with my race and the experience was second to none!

Crossing that finish line meant my biggest goal to date had been achieved and it was now time to enjoy a well earned holiday!
